Another year of flying rice starts today

As the sun came up today Ryan and I were out at the R22 getting him ready to leave for our summer rice job.  When I tell peoplethat we fly rice they say "what are you talking about"!

So rice is planted in male and female rows. Between 11-1 each day we pollinate the female rows by flying low over the male rows and the down wash (wind) from the blades sends the pollen over to the female plants.  Each field is flown for about 10 days.  Well, now you know the rice story, so next time you are having some rice you will have a better understanding of how it came to be.
